Vintage Fraternity Wooden Paddle, Phi Kappa Sigma (ΦΚΣ) fraternity paddle. The crest or emblem is typical for a specific chapter and includes chevron patterns near the handle and a circular design at the top. The paddle is a traditional item in Greek life, often given as a gift to represent brotherhood or sisterhood, chapter pride and mentorship bonds, often given as gifts to new members or "big brothers/sisters" during initiation or special occasions. ΦΚΣ refers to the Phi Kappa Sigma international all-male college fraternity. The crest shown in the image is the coat of arms for this fraternity.  Measurements are 36" x 4" x 1/2". According to online research, here is some information about the fraternity: • Nickname: It is commonly known as "Phi Kaps," "Skulls," "Skulls and Bones," or "Skullhouse". The "Skulls" nickname is inspired by the skull and crossbones on the fraternity's badge and coat of arms.  • Motto: The motto displayed on the crest in the image is "Stellis Aequus Durando," which means "Equal to the Stars in Endurance".  • Founding: The fraternity was founded on August 16, 1850, at the University of Pennsylvania.  • Symbolism Paddles are deeply symbolic items within Greek organizations, meant to commemorate a member's initiation, accomplishments, or their "family" lineage within the chapter. • Personalization They are typically made of wood and personalized with Greek letters, the fraternity crest, chapter name, initiation date, and other messages or symbols. The one in the image is a traditional wooden style with the fraternity's Greek letters prominently displayed. • Tradition While historically linked to corporal punishment or hazing, modern Greek organizations largely use paddles as decorative tokens of appreciation and inclusion, with many licensed products including anti-hazing warnings. • Display Members often display their paddles in their homes or the chapter house as a reminder of their college days and the bonds of their fraternity.  Williams Estate
